City Island, a little-known slice of NYC paradise lost power for a couple of hours Saturday night during the first snowstorm of the season. City Island Avenue, the public main street, and sidewalks were lighted, but the residential zones were kept in the dark.
City Island is a small neighborhood community about 1.5 miles long by 0.5 miles wide. Detached from NYC's hustle and bustle, this magical island appeals to artists, downsizing homeowners and boaters.
City Images, which is also headquartered on the island immediately called ConEd to report the outage, but their representatives would not confirm what caused the problem. However, our sources say it was due to transformer failure.
