Normally on any weekday afternoon, we like to call City Island, A Slice of NYC Paradise. In fact 14 out of 15 days, it is a very quiet and quaint island village with 4,555 residents, full of restaurants frequented by visitors on weekends who flock to nearby Pelham Bay Park and Orchard Beach.
Today was unfortunately day 14 as a 52-year-old woman was shot three times while working on the bridge crew and was pronounced #DOA at Jacobi Hospital. The woman died after being shot multiple times on City Island Avenue. The suspect was struck by a car while fleeing the scene on a bike.
The gunman who killed Lizbeth Mass brought her food before the fatal shooting, according to police investigators. The victim was working as a flag woman at a construction site when she was shot multiple times.
The 66-year-old suspect has been identified as 66-year-old Geraldo Reyes, who authorities say works as a handyman in the vicinity of the site attempted to flee on a bike but was struck by a car, according to @NYPDnews
The police say this was a domestic dispute. Informed sources tell us the lady worked for @TutorPerini construction company. This fatal shooting close to home once again reminds us of the dangers surrounding gun violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim who is remembered for her kindness to everyone who came into the island. We are grateful for the fast reaction of her boyfriend the @NYPD45Pct for arresting the suspect. The NYPD 45th Precinct, which covers City Island has seen just eight other killings since 1993 and reportedly went without a slaying from 2000 to 2012.
