A hidden section of NYC surprises visitors, who are always amazed that City Island exists and it is part of New York City. This former shipbuilding enclave during the 19th century is now known for its marinas and seafood restaurants.
Learn about its maritime roots inside this 100-year-old building known as City Island's Nautical Museum, and you can also soak up the lovely Long Island Sound views.
Just over the City Island Bridge is Pelham Bay Park, the largest park in NYC, which has Orchard Beach, along with hiking trails and two public golf courses.
There are several seafood restaurants, so you can’t go wrong. Sea Shore and the City Island Lobster House are popular spots.
