Is there a Trump treason troupe that has now spread to 45 members of the Senate and over twice as many US Congress members?
Senators were sworn in as jurors in former President Trump’s impeachment trial, and then Republicans forced a vote on the constitutionality of the process.
Though they lost, the fact that 45 of them support a Rand Paul resolution that the trial is unconstitutional because Trump is a private citizen and no longer president suggests Democrats may not be able to get the 67 votes needed for a conviction. His impeachment trial may not result in a conviction. But it will increase his chances of being criminally prosecuted.
The only US president to be impeached twice is Donald Trump. His second trial is now scheduled to begin the week of Feb. 8, which is just over one year after the US Senate acquitted him for the first time of high crimes and misdemeanors. Holding Trump accountable must be more than an impeachment trial for inciting the Capitol riot and invasion with led to deaths, multiple injuries and destruction. It must also include a full investigation into any other crimes he may have committed.
Five people died, including a policeman and 134 other public safety officers were injured, in addition to the lives of Vice President Pence, House Speaker Pelosi, and members of Congress who found themselves in jeopardy on January 6, The day of the Epiphany. Are Republicans defending the insurrection that took with Trump’s support and now say he can be allowed to violate the law with impunity?
Police officials say 140 officers were injured in the Capitol riot. The physical toll on public safety officers was immense. They Included head injuries, cracked ribs and at least one was stabbed with a metal fence stake.
Once again, Republicans want We The People to move on and forget about their failed attempts at destroying Democracy. Doesn’t the GOP want to hear the evidence this time either? Are they refusing to allow American voters to hear all the facts and make up their minds once and for all before determining how far Republicans keep sinking after four years?
This is the same GOP that formed United States House Select Committee on Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi It was created after Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner, on May 2, 2014, proposed that a House select committee would be formed to further investigate the Benghazi attack on September 11, 2012. During that event, the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya was attacked, resulting in the deaths of the U.S. ambassador to that country, J. Christopher Stevens, and three other Americans.
On May 8, 2014, the House voted 232–186 to establish the select committee, with 225 Republicans and 7 Democrats in favor, and 186 Democrats voting against. The chairman of the committee was Representative Trey Gowdy from South Carolina. It was the last of six investigations conducted by Republican-controlled House committees. The committee closed on December 12, 2016, after issuing its final report outlined below.
