Forgotten Revolution?

Submitted by ub on

The Peoples Republic of China keeps trying to forget its Cultural Revolution. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the day Mao Zedong issued the order that began China's Cultural Revolution.

This was a ten-year period of violence and chaos when more than 1 million who were perceived to be counterrevolutionaries were imprisoned, killed or committed suicide and the economy was left in a shambles.

Many witnesses, victims. and participants of that era want an open discussion about what occurred to make sure nothing like that happens again. But China’s current Communist leader prefers to obliterate any memory of the embarrassing period for fear it might weaken their grip on power.
