In the Hail Mary pass all receivers run straight toward the end zone and the quarterback will make a long pass that is often "up for grabs."
The Donald holds a Hail Mary rally in Michigan, just thirty-some hours before Rejection Day. Yes, Michigan, which continues to draw as he likes to say "so many" immigrants from the Arab world, creating one of the largest Arab communities outside the Middle East.
Camp Pain toppers have chosen Sterling Heights, which is one of the many Arab-American enclaves around Metro Detroit and Michigan, but it’s far from the only one. There are hundreds of thousands living in Michigan alone.
There’s an interesting legend popular among the locals that Henry Ford once met a Yemeni sailor near the port, and told him about auto factory jobs that paid five dollars a day. That sailor spread the word, leading to chain migration from many parts of the Middle East.
We don’t know if this chance encounters ever really happened. But in the early days, Ford was more willing to hire Arabs than some other immigrants, or African-Americans.
Like so many immigrant groups, Arab Americans continue to face suspicion and outright discrimination, especially after-9/11. But many people say those issues aren’t so pervasive in Michigan because of the community’s long history. As long as they stay united, they can never be divided.
It may be too little and too late for The Donald to repent for his anti-Muslim rhetoric, as Hillary visits Michigan afterward, where she is expected to hold an event in Grand Rapids.
