Herd Immunity Dangers

There are now 9 million #USA cases and scientists fear that spreader rallies are relying on a false premise of herd immunity for The Coronavirus pandemic, #COVID19. Has herd immunity ever been successful? In fact, the short answer is NO.

Stanford University researchers say President Donald Trump’s campaign rallies have resulted in 30,000 infections and 700 have now died.

The proposals to largely let the virus run its course, which is embraced by #Republican POTUS and others may cause untold death and suffering. 90K Corona cases in a single day, translates to 1 infection per second. At the beginning of the pandemic, we stayed home with fewer cases. Stay home, but if you must go out, wear a mask.

Soon after the novel coronavirus appeared as a global threat this spring, certain terms confined to public health and epidemiology like “flatten the curve” and “PPE” became part of our vocabulary. Among them is “herd immunity,” which some people, including Donald Trump, think will bring the pandemic to a close, even without a vaccine. But unlike social distancing which is a relatively easy concept for most people to understand — “herd immunity” is more complex, especially since there’s more than one way to achieve it.

Global expert epidemiologists repeatedly smacked down such ideas, warning that surrendering to the virus is never going to be a defensible plan,

Despite the widespread critique, the idea keeps popping up among politicians and policymakers in the United States. American President Donald Trump spoke positively about it back in September, using the malapropism “herd mentality.

But those working on the government’s #COVID response say that the attempts by the White House and Atlas to steer clear from using the phrase “herd immunity” are merely a game of semantics. Privately, the policy pursuits of herd immunity of the government should prioritize protecting the vulnerable while allowing everybody to get infected.

It is clear that Trump still has no real working plan to address COVID-19. He quit on #USA and wants us to grow numb to the horrors of the death toll and the pain. Can America afford another four years of this so-called leadership?
