JAPAN is an awesome country with delicious food and an amazing culture. Their yummy food, quirky gadgets that make you re-think the Japanese sanity and some very cool people. Most Japanese are reserved, but once they trust you they can be fun, wild and crazy. Most are not overly affectionate and seem to think it’s necessary to say ‘please’ and thank you’ as many times as possible. Some adore manga and anime, drinking sake, karaoke bars etc. The Japanese are proud of their country and many work too hard, but I guess it hasn't really harmed them as they have made Japan one wicked place to go and visit. In all, it’s difficult to quite sum up a Japanese person without mentioning their culture...it seems to go hand in hand.
Too many folks in USA have a huge misconception about Puerto Ricans. They are actually a nice breed of Latinos that are way more different than those you see on TV crime shows, or major motion pictures like the SHARKS gangs of West Side Story. In order to understand what a Puertorican is you must visit the island or meet people that actually came from "La Isla Bonita" The Beautiful Island". There's a difference between Newyorkricans and Puertoricans. Newyorkricans were born and raised on the U.S.
Not all listen to salsa or reggaeton and talk with an urban accent. They are refined and speak Spanish and English properly. They are a race with a little bit of White, Indian and Black blood mixed in their veins and that's what makes Puertoricans so groovy.
Why all of this? Well, City Island Images has just learned that City Island, NY will soon offer a JAPARICAN menu at OHANA. This is not an April fools joke, but owner Rod Rodriguez promises to make this menu available by April 1, 2012.
Ohana is the only Japanese restaurant on City Island and as far as I know, the only one in the world owned by a Puero Rican businessman.
