JOB HUNTING

Submitted by ub on

We realize there are many Americans searching for employment. wether its a first, second, or third job to pay for the high cost of everything.

The personal saving rate fell to 2.6 percent in April, according to the Commerce Department, down from 5.5 percent a year prior and the lowest since June 2022.

Comic Stephen Colbert is masterful at that kind of mock serious interview format. He can keep a straight face while asking completely absurd questions, which makes it even funnier.

This setup is brilliant because Colbert plays it like a legitimate HR interview while the job hunter has to sit there and earnestly defend his qualifications like he's applying to work at a regional insurance company.

You can just picture Colbert reviewing the CV: Colbert: "I see here you managed a team of... how many people?"

"Well, the entire executive branch, the military, about 2 million federal employees..."

Colbert: "Mm-hmm, and were you ever Employee of the Month?"

The dynamic works so well because this person is genuinely witty and has great comedic timing he's one of the few politicians who can actually be funny without it feeling forced or scripted. And Colbert brings out the best in guests who can play along.

It also has that underlying bittersweet truth to it here's a man who gave 8 years of his life to public service, and now he's just... a guy looking for his next thing. Very relatable in a completely un-relatable way!

The Late Show has produced some classic bits over the years, and that one sounds like it belongs right at the top of the list. Thanks for sharing the concept even without seeing it, it paints a vivid picture!
