The Drudge Report

A dizzying array of links to stories published in the mainstream media and popular columnists. The simple links are straightforward and easy to navigate. The site is run by Matt Drudge, an early pioneer of online news. Besides presenting breaking news from different sources and authors, it features a searchable archive of its content since 2001.

The Editors Weblog

The World Editors Forum is part of the World Association of Newspapers. It posts daily reports on trends and developments within the newspaper industry. It is written with the goal of giving newspaper editors information they need to balance the function of their printed products with new media.

Asia Media

Daily electronic publication delivering news and commentary about Asian and other world media. The site seeks to present news about Asian media to the West - and vice versa.

Project for Excellence in Journalism

The Project for Excellence in Journalism is a research organization affiliated with the Pew Research Center and directed by Tom Rosensteil, who helped author The Elements of Journalism. The site seeks to analyse the the content of what appears in the media in an effort to deepen understanding on the part of journalists and the pubic. Of particular interest is the annual "State of News Media Report".

Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA)

The Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) at the National Endowment for Democracy, works to strengthen the support, raise the visibility, and improve the effectiveness of independent media development throughout the world. The Center provides information, builds networks, conducts research, and highlights the indispensable role independent media play in the creation and development of sustainable democracies.

Committee to Protect Journalists

The Committee to Protect Journalists promotes press freedom worldwide by defending the rights of journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal. Founded in 1981, CPJ takes action when journalists are censored, jailed, kidnapped, or killed for their work, without regard to political ideology. In its defense of journalists, CPJ protects the rights of all people to access independent sources of information – an essential part of a free society.

Center for Public Integrity

An American nonprofit dedicated to investigative journalism. Founded in 1997, it publishes its thoroughly researched reports in books, online and in third-party publications (as do many similar non-profit centers for investigative journalism). The Center is known for its high standards.

Global Integrity

An American nonprofit known for its yearly reports about corruption in countries around the world. It “works with in-country local experts around the world - journalists, researchers, and academics - to apply a unique methodology for qualitatively and quantitatively assessing anti-corruption mechanisms, openness, and government accountability”.

The Center for Investigative Reporting

A pioneering American nonprofit, founded in 1977. It is based in California. Its content is seen as fierce but fair.

The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism

Founded in 1989, this nonprofit is most known for its investigations of the unexplained amount of real estate accumulated by former President Joseph Estrada. The PCIJ investigations were part of the successful impeachment suit filed against the president in 2000.

The Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism

A nonprofit founded in 2001 to improve the quality of investigative journalism in Romania. The organization is particularly concerned with corruption and organized crime.

Reuters Foundation

Reuters Foundation provides tools and training to journalists around the world. Handbooks are available online, so journalists everywhere may learn the same skill sets and news values that have brought success to Reuters' syndicated news services. Reuters Foundation also offers AlertNet, a news service tailored to the international disaster relief community.

World Press Photo

Based in Amsterdam, World Press Photo is a non-profit organization known best for operating a prestigious annual press photography contest. Winning photos are featured in a traveling exhibition.

European Broadcasting Union

Founded in February 1950 by western European radio and television broadcasters, the EBU negotiates broadcasting rights for major sports events, operates the Eurovision and Euroradio networks and provides a full range of other operational, commercial, technical, legal and strategic services.

Poynter Institute

The Poynter Institute provides a bevy of resources to teach and inspire journalists and media leaders. Users may register to receive daily e-mails with industry news compiled by Jim Romenesko. Also, there is easy access Poynter's Career Center where journalists may e-mail questions to premier American newspaper recruiter Joe Grimm.

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press

A non-for-profit providing free legal assistance to journalists. The site provides a bank of relevant news stories, plus guides to accessing free information, like court records.

Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is a non-profit association of broadcasting organizations based in Malaysia. It services are varied and include daily satellite exchanges, negotiation of broadcasting rights and training for broadcasters.

Institute for War and Peace Reporting

Works with local media in a small group of countries, such as Afghanistan and Zimbabwe, to build peace and democracy through free and fair media.

American Press Institute

Conducts residential seminars for journalists as well as sales, marketing and management professionals working at media companies. It hosts the Journalist's Toolbox, useful for reporters, writers and editors.

International Center for Journalists

The International Center for Journalists is a non-profit organization seeking to improve the quality of journalism worldwide via hands-on education.

Journalists@YourService

Journalists@YourService is a partnership project between six journalism organizations - including the EJC - to provide logistical guidance to journalists visiting or working in Brussels.

Reporters Without Borders

Staunch supporters of press freedom around the world, Reporters without Borders closely monitors the plight of journalists working in tense, dangerous conditions. It produces yearly reports about the freedom of the press, and tracks the number of journalists killed or imprisoned for doing their work.

Newspaper Association of America

Formed in the mid-'90s, this American group's current strategic aims include suggesting initiatives to grow advertising share and increase the sales of newspapers.

International Federation of Journalists

Based in Brussels, the International Federation of Journalists represents journalists from more than 100 countries. It monitors and aims to defend press freedom throughout the world.

World Association of Newspapers

A global group promoting press freedom and economic independence for newspapers. Its long list of members includes national newspaper associations, individual newspaper executives, news agencies and regional press organizations.

International Press Institute

The mission of the International Press Institute is to improve press freedom. It monitors violations of this freedom on its website. Each year IPI publishes the World Press Freedom Review, a report on media violations.
