Kabuki Congress

During my travels throughout continent Asia, Thanks to Nami Yamamoto and Kazue Abiko, I had the distinct pleasure of attending a Kabuki performance in Tokyo, Japan.

I did not understand the dialogue but followed as attentively as I could. Lately, The US House and The Senate remind me of this experience. While watching Congress on C-SPAN it is beginning to feel very familiar.  https://www.c-span.org/

歌舞伎 is a classical Japanese dance-drama known for the elaborate Kumadori worn by some of its performers. Kabuki is considered to have begun in 1603 when Izumo no Okuni formed a female dance troupe to perform dances and light sketches in Kyoto but developed into an all-male theatrical form after females were banned from kabuki theater in 1629. This form of theatre was perfected in the late 17th and mid-18th century.

In Japan, July 26th is known as Ghost Day. It celebrates the debut performance of the kabuki play "Yotsuya Kaidan," which was 195 years ago yesterday. It was the blockbuster of the Edo era. #幽霊の日

CEOs for four tech companies worth a combined $4 trillion will testify virtually before Congress on the question of whether their various empires have too much concentrated power. The numbers tell the story: Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Apple constitute about 15% of the S&P 500. This Wednesday’s testimony will be more Kabuki theater than substance https://fortune.com/2020/07/27/wednesdays-testimony-will-be-more-kabuki-theater-than-substance/
