Lost Generation

Submitted by ub on

For the first time since the 1950's, when The Castro Brothers launched their Cuban Revolution, the communist island will no longer have a Castro leading it.

The Cuban Revolution was an armed revolt conducted by Fidel and Raul Castro's revolutionary 26th of July Movement and its allies against the authoritarian government of another Cuban dictator named Fulgencio Batista.

The new president is 57-year-old Miguel Diaz-Canel. He is the chosen leader of an unfulfilled generation finally coming to maturity after the Castro era.

Believe it on not, Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez is a Cuban politician who has served as Vice President of the Council of State as well as the Council of Ministers since 2013. However, he has been a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba since 2003 and served as Minister of Higher Education from 2009 to 2012. He was promoted to the post of Vice President of the Council of Ministers Deputy Prime Minister in 2012. A year later, on 24 February 2013, he was elected as First Vice President of the Council of State.

Miguel Diaz-Canel is expected to succeed Raul Castro as president, becoming the first person to hold the office from outside the Castro family since the 1959 revolution. http://apne.ws/WAEV8ws
