MUSSEL SUCKERS IN LOVE

Submitted by ub on

Two mussel suckers loving an island of clam diggers but we are definitely not alone in City Island - A Slice of NYC Paradise.

When I moved to City Island back in the 90s to build News 12, The Bronx  I hoped to be accepted into the ranks of the natives. My old friend the late Captain Edward Sadler shared some bad news.

“Newcomers especially want to be a part of the community, so they figure we got rules to be called a clam digger,” Mr. Sadler said, using the folksy local term for a native. “They figure you can be a clam digger if you stand on your right foot in front of the diner for two hours.” My fiancé and here son Yiliang moved in and we we married here on the island. The old man of the sea is gone but not forgotten and the diner is now for sale.

However, did you know there are about 300 species of freshwater mussels in North America alone?

The habitat crew at the Lower Great Lakes Fish & Wildlife Conservation Office recently participated in snorkel surveys in the Cacapon River and learned more about these fascinating creatures! These surveys are part of a monitoring grid established by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources in 2015. Participants identified seven different species of freshwater mussels and counted approximately 500 individuals.

When you have a career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, you never know where the day might take you.

My amigo  Andy Garcia likes this place so much that he shot a movie here. Meet the Rizzos, a family that might get along a lot better if only they could tell each other the truth. Dad Vince Garcia of OCEAN'S Franchise is the worst offender. But since the prison guard won't even admit that "poker night" is in fact acting class, how's he ever going to explain his illegitimate son? His daughter works as a stripper when she's supposed to be in college, while young Vinnie Jr. Ezra Miller of TV's CALIFORNICATION has a secret sexual fetish that involves a 24-hour webcam and the family's 300-pound neighbor. Vince's wife Joyce Julianna Margulies of TV's THE GOOD WIFE is the family's rock, but it's been a year since she enjoyed intimacy with her husband, and it's no surprise she thinks "poker night" spells A-F-F-A-I-R. When former prisoner Tony Steven Strait of STOP-LOSS enters the Rizzos' lives, Joyce begins to suspect that the handsome young Tony isn't who Vince says he is. A perfect storm of deception, half truths, and confusion makes the family members realize that the truth may not set them free, but it is easier to keep track of than all their well-intentioned white lies.
