Trump calls off Iran strikes, claims deal — Tehran says not so fast
Trump announced he cancelled planned new airstrikes after declaring Iran approved "final points" of a peace deal reportedly his 39th such announcement. Markets surged: S&P 500 up 1.8%, Nasdaq up 2.5%, Seoul's Kospi up 8%+ in early Friday trading. But Tehran called it "speculation," saying no final agreement had been reached. A proposed deal, per Iranian state media, would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift oil sanctions. Oil prices fell on the peace hopes regardless.
