NUMBER NINE

The ninth edition of Earth Hour rolled across this wonderful wide world tonight promptly at 8:30P

Saturday night, all people and public places across the globe were being asked to switch off their lights for one hour to raise awareness about the impact of energy use on climate change.

Families and organizations were encouraged to turn off the lights and other unnecessary electrical devices from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. local time in order to participate in the global Earth Hour campaign, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Blame it on the Aussies, as Earth hour began in Australia in 2007 and is now celebrated in over 150 countries around the world.

WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of our planet's natural environment, and build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
In order to achieve this mission, WWF focuses its efforts on two broad areas: Biodiversity and Footprint.

The first, is to ensure that the earth's web of life - biodiversity - stays healthy and vibrant for generations to come. We are strategically focusing on conserving critical places and critical species that are particularly important for the conservation of our earth's rich biodiversity.

The second, is to reduce the negative impacts of human activity - our ecological footprint. We are working to ensure that the natural resources required for life -land, water, air - are managed sustain-ably and equitably.
