The State Department's independent watchdog found that former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife Susan Pompeo violated federal ethics rules by making more than 100 personal, non-work related requests to department employees -- from ordering gifts to booking salon appointments and taking care of the family dog.
Pompeo violated ethics rules by asking staff to carry out personal tasks, according to a federal watchdog report released. The investigation started in October 2019 after a whistleblower complained that Pompeo and his wife were misusing State Department resources for personal purposes. It was one of a number of investigations into Pompeo’s conduct at the State Department as the nation's top diplomat in the previous administration.
