A federal judge ordered the US government to resume accepting asylum claims, regardless of where or how applicants enter the country. This decision impedes President Trump’s attempts to block a group of Central Americans from crossing the US border.
Although President Trump signed a proclamation on November 9 banning migrants from applying for asylum if they failed to make the request at a legal checkpoint, immigration laws stipulate that foreigners who touch American soil are eligible to apply for asylum and cannot be immediately deported.
The judge not only blocked Trump's asylum ban but called the administration’s arguments for it “unpersuasive” and while this ruling blocks Trump’s policy temporarily, it affects some migrants, who recently reached the #USA #Mexico border.
