RAMADAN MUBARAK

Submitted by ub on

As Muslims enter the holy month of Ramadan, fasting from sunrise to sunset, a student tells me she is not a morning-eating person.

Whenever I wake up, I find it extremely difficult to go for hours without eating, but everyone is different and that's what makes us special individuals.

Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide. Considered the most sacred month in the Islamic faith, it is a month of fasting and spiritual growth to commemorate the first revelation of the Qur'an to the Prophet Muhammad. Muslims use this time to strengthen and restore their focus on their spirituality and reflect on how to connect that to their everyday lives.

Muslims welcome the holy month of Ramadan with a mix of joy and deep concern

Muslims around the world are welcoming the arrival of Ramadan, a month of dawn-to-dusk fasting, intense prayer, charity and feasts. But the tribulations faced by fellow Muslims are never far from anyone’s mind. War and starvation in the Gaza Strip casts an especially dark shadow this year.

During Ramadan, Muslims participate in fasting during daylight hours. Part of the observance is to perform acts of service and charity and work to improve self-discipline. The daily fast is broken with the evening meal, called iftar, which is frequently shared with family and their community.  To learn more about Ramadan, click here.
