REPUBLICANS CAN’T

Americans expect a shutdown after House Republicans left town for the weekend with no viable plan to keep the government funded.

Prepare for number 15, folks. There have been 14 government shutdowns in the last 4 decades. Most last only a few days.
These clowns are only capable of destruction, not are not willing to avert politically and economically costly disruption of federal services.

A federal shutdown after Sept. 30 seems all but certain as GOP US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is not capable of convincing his rebellious hard-right flank of Republicans to allow Congress to approve a temporary funding measure to prevent closures while they work on the annual federal spending plan. But the House is not expected back until Tuesday, leaving just five days to resolve his standoff.

Some of the most significant shutdowns in U.S. history have included the 21-day shutdown of 1995–1996 during the Bill Clinton administration over opposition to major spending cuts; the 16-day shutdown in 2013 during the Barack Obama administration caused by a dispute over the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Senators are pushing for votes on a bill that would permanently end shutdowns, instead triggering two-week stopgap bills when funding lapses. https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/22/bipartisan-group-stop-governme…
