I met Gustavo Godoy when he was anchoring Noticiero SIN with Teresa Abate in Miami when I had been hired as executive producer.
Gus and Tere were a likable and extremely capable Cuban anchor team, but as TV demographics continued to evolve, they made room for Maria Elena Salinas and Jorge Ramos, younger Mexican news anchors that ultimately catapulted Univision into a television news powerhouse.
Gustavo Godoy was an extremely learned and experienced journalist who demanded and deserved respect. Gus went on to serve as Telemundo VP of News, where he became one of my supervisors. I served on both coasts as News Director in Los Angeles and NY and later returned to LA after a stint as USIA Division Chief under Republican President George HW Bush.
I will always remember the many discussions we had about news content, ethics, and presentation. He was an inspirational leader who will be greatly missed.
