Ronnie and The Ronettes once had The Rolling Stones as their warm-up act. Also during the Summer of 1964, the Ronettes spent a lot of time hanging out at Odine's, an exclusive East Side club on Fifty-Ninth Street in Manhattan. According to Ronnie, that is where the Ronettes were first introduced to Jimi Hendrix, who was an unknown guitarist there at the time. Ronnie used to get up and sing along with Hendrix as he played guitar. After running into Hendrix again at a party in 1969, Estelle and Ronnie were invited into the studio to do backing vocals on Hendrix's "Earth Blues" song. Their work on the backing vocals earned The Ronettes a credit on Hendrix's posthumously released LP Rainbow Bridge, released in October 1971.  https://youtu.be/k04gSYkvvgM

As the elder singer, Bennett initially fronted The Ronettes while record producer Phil Spector, Ronnie’s husband produced the majority of their output, which evolved into the Wall of Sound. https://youtu.be/J-mpyFrXq0Q

RIP Ronnie Spector, Ronettes Girl-Group Icon

“Her joyful sound, playful nature, and magical presence will live on in all who knew, heard, or saw her,” Spector’s family said of the “Be My Baby” vocalist. ‘That was destined to be a hit.” The record was penned by one of the best duos (Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry), helmed by the defining producer of the decade (Phil Spector), and featured the greatest rock’n’roll session players of the era - The Wrecking Crew, Sonny & Cher sang back-up on it. And part of why these artists came to be considered legends is contained within the song: “Be My Baby” is one of pop’s rare “before” and “after” moments, an iconic new sound with an entrance so memorable, musicians across the board are still copying that bum-ba-bum-BOOM. The song is synonymous with over-the-top romantic gestures for a reason, sweeping up the listener in its rollicking excitement every time—with the drums, the piano, the castanets, and, finally, the echoing chorus. As Brian Wilson put it, “It’s the greatest record ever produced.”
