Tributes are being paid to former US secretary of state Colin Powell, who died at age 84 following complications from COVID-19.
The passing of a great Patriot whose family deserves our deepest condolences may he rest in eternal and heavenly peace. I learned from Colin Powell that an American should have no loyalty to any political party, to the fury of some neighbors, friends, and partisans. No circumstance, regardless of the audience and no matter the challenge General Powell led with distinction. It is a true measure of a leader, a patriot, and a real man.
General Powell had previously been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer in plasma cells that suppresses the body’s immune response. “We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great American,” his family said in a statement.
He provided evidence of mass destruction weapons. Only, none were found. Still, 1,691,704 Iraqi civilians were killed, and Iraqi oil was sent to a few American companies. And Iraq today after being one of the strongest countries educationally and industrially is poor.
Powell was the ultimate citizen-soldier, promoting that America must lead in the world and the military alone could not keep us safe. He led an effort to dramatically increase the U.S. Foreign Service and strengthen our diplomatic readiness as Secretary of State, and he was a tireless advocate for our diplomatic, development, and foreign assistance tools.
The Bronx-born Republican practiced selfless service and not self-service like another high profile RINO. Powell had a weakened immune system that may have played a role in his COVID-19 death. The dying military hero was rattled by Donald Trump and Jan. 6th: “It was awful. He was going in there to overturn the government”
Powell reportedly loved music, especially reggae, harkening back to his Jamaican roots. His parents were immigrants from that Caribbean island. He was a ham who didn't mind embarrassing himself to entertain a crowd.
Secretary Collin Powell, a Republican later admitted his mistake which is more than most Republicans do today. He always put country over party. I wish more members of the GOP would do the same. https://twitter.com/RpsAgainstTrump/status/1450213397384007683?s=20
