SANDY AFTERMATH

Submitted by ub on

While the worst of Hurricane Sandy has passed, we are now facing an unprecedented recovery effort in New York City.

Thanks to a pro-active approach to the storm, President Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) quickly declared New York City a major disaster area. This declaration makes residents and businesses eligible for vital disaster assistance, including home and property loans, help with finding and paying for temporary housing, and business loans.

To apply for disaster assistance, please visit www.disasterassistance.gov
and "Apply Now" button, or call (800) 621-3362. Please reach out to your local public servant's office if you need help with your application or for any other assistance.

Also, as power returns to your area, please remember to tell your loved ones that you're OK. The Red Cross maintains a "Safe and Well" list and you can click here to register yourself or find out if a loved one is registered.

New Yorkers have faced many hard times and challenges, but our resolve will not waver. There is have no doubt that we will overcome this terrible tragedy and emerge even stronger.
