Schofield Street Senior Residence Moving Forward

A news update published in The Island Current stating that the Senior Housing project "appear to have stalled" is not accurate, according to Dr. Domenico Mignone, MD - The president of the not-for-profit Italian Hospital Society, who specializes in Obstetrics & Gynecology, told City Island Images "I am extremely disappointed that some people in the community are disseminating inaccurate information. They are misinforming and distorting the facts for their own ends". Dr. Mignone added that his plans call for independent living, as well as assisted living units, including rehabilitation services.

He says these actions will not derail his project, stating that he expects the Board of Standards and Appeals will approve his plans in the next few months. Dr. Mignone added that he has three years to close the deal and vowed that he'll do it sooner than later. The property for the planned senior residence center is located on the SE corner of Schofield Street and City Island Avenue. The building will reportedly house about 180 seniors and offer a cafeteria, an exercise room, laundry facilities, as well as a community meeting space, with limited parking spaces.

Jacqueline Kyle Kall, who represents the current owner of the property was unusually quiet during this week's City Island Civic Association meeting, while those present voted to write a letter in opposition to the project. However, when City Island Images spoke with her and after she read the news article, Jackie said that "nobody has stalled it"... "I have it right here and the article is not true" adding that "the project is moving forward".
