NYC Emergency Management, and other City officials today advised New Yorkers to prepare for the possible effects of Hurricane Joaquin. The City is working with the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center to monitor Hurricane Joaquin and plan for possible impacts. The Department of Buildings is reminding all builders, contractors, and property owners to secure their construction sites and buildings and prepare for ongoing sustained winds upwards of 30mph with wind gusts in excess of 70mph. The City encourages the public and visitors to stay informed by signing up for Notify NYC, the City’s official source for emergency information, and identify their hurricane evacuation zone by visiting http://gis.nyc.gov/oem/he/index.html or calling 311.
