As the people of the world join in with her British subjects of the United Kingdom, City Images look back at her exemplary life at The Queen of England.

At the young age of 25, Elizabeth became queen on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI, taking charge of a country that survived the damage of World War II with Winston Churchill as Prime Minister.

The 95 year old monarch Elizabeth II is not only Queen of the United Kingdom but also 14 other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in Mayfair, London, as the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York. Her father ascended the throne in 1936 upon the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII, making Elizabeth the heir presumptive to the Brith Throne.
