The Democrats are about to announce the ticket for Joe Biden's VP candidate and the winner is a real qualified intelligent woman.
They are the Democratic Party’s most reliable and loyal voters, but for generations, that allegiance didn’t translate to their own political rise. But that was then and the time is here and now for all to see and hear.
Former vice president Biden, who is the presumptive Democratic nominee has said that he is committed to selecting a woman as his running mate, and a number of high-profile public figures are seen as the top contenders.
His campaign has been vetting potential running mates. Here are the people reportedly being considered by the former VP.
Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), a Thai-American Iraq War veteran who had both her legs amputated after her helicopter was shot down,
Joe Biden has also reportedly asked for vetting papers from New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, a former House member who was elected governor in 2018 and would be the first Hispanic American to serve as vice president.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who was first elected in 2018 and has been a lightning rod for Trump’s animus during the coronavirus pandemic, said she is in talks with the Biden campaign to begin the vetting process.
US Representative Val Demings (D-Fla.), a former Orlando police chief who worked as one of six Democratic impeachment managers during Trump’s impeachment trial, confirmed that she’s on the shortlist.
US Senator Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) who also served as governor, is reportedly being vetted. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms, who has emerged as a key figure in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death in police custody, is also reportedly being vetted by the campaign.
US Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), two of Biden’s opponents during the Democratic primary who are seen as top contenders for the position, are both being vetted, as is former UN Ambassador Susan Rice and former Georgia State Representative Stacey Abrams are being vetted for the position as well.
Last but not least, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, who was one of the most unpopular governors in 2019 until her approval rating skyrocketed during the coronavirus pandemic, has also spoken to Biden’s vetting team.
Behind the scenes, various interest groups have been competing for Joe Biden’s favor, with strong pushes for a Latina. A Hispanic or African American pick could make the winning ticket, but Biden has said he’s looking for a running mate who would be prepared to take over for him as president. Our pick is Susan Rice because she knows how to deal with Russia and Putin as well as China and Xi.
Joe Biden needs to pick the best choice, and not worry about POTUS GOP Trump lies, these will materialize regardless.
