The White House #RNC three-ring circus is expected to break all political normality. But since Trump is always trying to be the center of attention and attraction, it may not be his best approach for a convention this time around.
POTUS will be speaking not just when he gives his final address but on every other night as well. Don't forget that it’s all about Trump. We are enduring a solemn season of national loss and public resentment, when Americans have seen thousands of needless deaths, unnecessary unemployment while grifting and golfing has increased or apparently continued.
The Republicans need to make sure Trump’s base gets it. When asked to outline his second-term agenda in the past, Trump has been unable to do it without reading something prepared for him. The last time it happened, he recalled his inauguration parade and then promptly shifted to describing one of his many former national security advisers as an "idiot." Since then, he has offered vague assurances about a trade deal with China, a nuclear agreement with Iran, and a plan to replace the 2009 Obamacare law all the same old promises he also made in 2016.
There are reports the Republican cam pain has cut and pasted their last platform and will try using it as a wash and wear for all Republicans to share. However, Trump’s record of lying, misleading Americans, and seeking assistance from The Russians would continue to be significant obstacles.
