Truth and Democracy

The rise of Fascism in Spain followed a classic trajectory that can serve as a blueprint for how Democracy can be destroyed.

My grandfather's family fled Fascism in Spain and my dad's family lost everything when we left Communism in Cuba. These facts underline how liars can dismantle our fragile Democracy.

Truth is dealing with facts or reality. It is ascribed to things that aim to represent beliefs, propositions, and declarative sentences. This is the opposite of falsehood. The concept of truth is discussed and debated in various contexts, including philosophy, art, theology.

While Americans are celebrating the July Fourth Independence Day Weekend, there is no escaping that some of our historical events are not really worth celebrating.

In fact, the #COVID pandemic continues to shake our nation and a growing number of #Americans experience racism, violence, and lies that have not been controlled by the #USA government. Recent nationwide polls reveal that we are unhappy, and most believe America is headed in the wrong direction. However, this is not our first low point in history. Let us learn from it as we take a look back at the worst moments in our past to teach us a lesson that can be applied today. And if we insist that our government will never lie to us again, or mislead the electorate perhaps a much better future is possible.

TIME evaluates the "worst moments" that contain lessons, and that these experiences should teach us to insist on the Truth, the whole truth, and nothing but. So help us, GOD.
