US Torture Report

Submitted by ub on

Enhanced interrogations, aka torture, but a US Senate Intelligence Committee's report finds these enhanced interrogations have apparently failed to yield life-saving information.

They were used on al-Qaeda terrorism suspects in the years following the 9/11 attacks on the US. Meanwhile, security has been increased at US facilities around the world at embassies and other sites are taking precautions as indications of greater risk.

Some lawmakers say USA will never again use torture as a method of interrogation. Others fear it will inflame extremist groups in the Middle East and elsewhere and threaten the lives of diplomats, military members and other Americans overseas.

As the Intelligence Committee releases a summary of a 6,200-page report on the the CIA's use of water-boarding, sleep deprivation, humiliation and other enhanced interrogation techniques against al-Qaeda prisoners during the George W. Bush administration, it is important to note it remains classified except a 480-page summary.
