Virginia Gallagher News Update - Here she is, one of the most famous #CityIsland residents celebrating 90 + Years Young while enjoying days of leisure at her new PA home. Ginger, or as I like calling her, Ginny needs no introduction. She's well known for her selfless dedication to City Island - A Slice of NYC Paradise.
She lives in The Bronx more than 40 years ago with her late husband, Jack. Virginia earned degrees from Pace and Cornell University. We initially met when she was working for New York Daily News and named the first affirmative action officer there. Mrs. Gallagher became active on City Island as a founding member of the City Island Community Center and the City Island Volunteer Ambulance.
During her tenure as President of the Civic Association from 1962 to 1981, she worked with other islander to build a new school on the former site of Nevins Shipyard. Public School 175 opened its doors in 1975, where my son graduated from school. She then became the driving force behind Pilot Cove, the island's one and only retirement home. #CITYIMAGES Raymond Reyes Jr
