Camp Pain 2016 debates, town halls and big press avails primaries have paid off for cable news channels CNN, MSNBC and Fox News.
With the core adults 24-54 demo that cable news channels sell ads against. In total viewers, Fox News was the most watched channel in all of cable TV in both prime time and total day, for the first time since 2003, at the very beginning of the Iraq war. CNN finished a distant second to Fox News in total viewers, but its viewership was up dramatically year over year (in some cases more than 200 percent). Fox News was not far behind CNN in the demo, and also saw its viewership increase significantly year over year.
MSNBC, a distant third behind Fox News and CNN.Its demo victory, and overall ratings was up more than 200 percent in prime time), CNN covered the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire primary, and yes, it had debates authorized by the DNC and RNC, but it also created its own town halls nearly every week, and it approached PBS to secure the right to simulcast that network’s debate. Ultimately, more people watched the PBS debate on CNN than they did on PBS.
