Worried residents prepare for a hurricane in Hawaii, while South Korea, and Japan braces for winds and rain from twin typhoons. strong winds, waves and heavy rain in southern South Korea, with one person missing and injuries, while another typhoon is headed for western Japan.

Hurricane Lane is expected to track northwest, then north, toward the Hawaiian Islands on Thursday into Friday. Lane, a category 4 hurricane, is also expected to gradually weaken some but will remain a dangerous system. Hurricane Warnings and Watches are up for the state, while multiple hazards from damaging winds to torrential flash flooding rain to rough surf and storm surge are possible.

Hurricane warnings have been issued for the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu, including Honolulu. A hurricane watch is in effect for Kauai County. Hurricane Lane is a Category 4 hurricane less than 300 miles south of the Big Island. Lane is curling northwestward toward Hawaii, and some weakening is expected as it does so. Whether the core of Lane's strongest winds affects parts of the islands through Saturday remains uncertain.
