@POTUS44 How Are You?

It was 9 years ago today, that Barack Obama was elected the first African-American President of the United States. Barack Hussein Obama II is an American politician who served two terms as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. He is the first African American to have served our nation. Life Imitating Art

Submitted by ub on

It has been said that life imitates art. A philosophical position that holds the direct opposite of Aristotelian mimesis. Its most notable proponent was Oscar Wilde, who in his 1889 essay The Decay of Lying that, "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life" https://prezi.com/lzfjdxdrtuum/the-decay-of-lying-a-close-reading-of-os…

Everyday life is full of real news, not fake as we have been continually and repeatedly told. Just because someone won't admit they are wrong when they've made mistakes or does not like it when they are caught doing something unethical, or illegal and deny it claiming its fake news doesn't make it so.

Life is full of uplifting, and improbable tales. Some of which are athletic events which have a tendency of healing communities and countries devastated by heavy losses or reeling from a major political upheaval.

Some films are produced based-on-true-events, like the major motion picture "Invictus" https://youtu.be/wKlNQ2YVLck and there are so many other true-life stories celebrating the enduring ideal of an inspirational underdog.

However, for those who do not believe in miracles, allow me to show you the following real news documentaries. This will remind you of a day the cold war was fought between democracy and communism as it played out by our amazing hockey team. The American Eagle beat the Russian bear. It's considered by many to be the greatest sports moment of the 20th century. The Miracle on Ice occurred in 1980 when the USA beat Russia. America did it once and we will do it again. https://youtu.be/f-K-mm8Bqik

There are other unforgettable, heart-stopping moments in my own life, like when NY METS baseball star Mike Piazza’s slammed a monumental home run against Atlanta Braves at Shea Stadium in 2001, as 40,000 disbelieving and amazed fans wept tears of joy just days after 9/11. Mike Piazza's post-9/11 homer helps NY heal https://youtu.be/hQhH6yZ8lxw This is when a sporting life is capable of awing and uniting all of us at the same time.

Most recently, when the Astros won the World Series of Baseball for the first time ever after a devastating hurricane hit Houston. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/astros/article/2005-Astros-share…

The explanation why The NYC Marathon goes on as scheduled just days after another act of terror was carried out in NYC. Security ramps up in NYC ahead of marathon https://youtu.be/mMY_X_R5kNI

As George Bernard Shaw said 'If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must man be of learning from experience.' Do you remember which nation had their athletes disqualified for doping? Can we learn the lesson of The Olympics in Sochi that shows us Russians cheat and when they get caught, they will not admit it and will continue denying it?

RIP Jay Howard

It was standing room only for Jay Howard's City Island memorial service at Trinity Church. The 76-year-old may have lost his battle with cancer, but he will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go to his widow, Norma and all the members of his extended family.

Jay Howard loved angels and he really was a guardian angel in City Island according to those who spoke and echoed these sentiments saying City Island will never be the same, or Jay was a rock for our community center, Trinity church and so much more.

Coffee Boy Spills The Beans

George Papadopoulos pleaded guilty for lying to federal agents about contacts with Russians in 2016 while having a starring role as a foreign-policy surrogate for Donald Trump. You don't allow someone at that table if they are low-level staffers and the images confirm that action speaks louder than words.

POTUS, who says he has a great memory now claims he does not remember him. Papadopoulos has been called a coffee boy, but could he be more a Covfefe?

Tax Plan or GOP Scam?

Submitted by ub on

Republicans released their long-awaited Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. This plan improves the corporate tax system but may not support working families or reduce the deficit. How does the tax bill could affect us?

Why is the so-called GOP tax reform plan being hailed by conservatives as the long-awaited cure for America’s anemic economic growth? Is it because they are going to cash in? Please, make sure you read the fine print.

National Climate Assessment

Submitted by ub on

The National Climate Assessment is prepared by our top scientists and is by far the largest, most comprehensive US-focused climate change report ever produced and gives in-depth look on climate change.

The findings point to humanity as the cause for this extreme weather pattern. Many independent lines of evidence demonstrate the world is warming and human activity is the primary cause.

Other changes flow from this warming, including melting of snow and ice, rising sea level, and increases in some types of extreme weather, such as extreme heat and heavy downpours.

End Crimes Against Journalists

An increasing number of journalists have been targeted in 2017 because of the work they do. They have been subject to physical assault, imprisonment, court convictions, arbitrary detention, interrogation, stalking, verbal attacks, online threats, and seizure of equipment. In some cases, their family members have also been targeted.

The perpetrators of these attacks are almost never held accountable. In the overwhelming majority of cases, authorities have acted with impunity, and non-state actors have gone unpunished. Instead, reporters are the ones who are treated as criminals.

Angry Bird

Who's the angry character that refuses to take responsibility for anything and will accuse anyone in order to pass the blame on to someone else but himself?

The fact is, everyone who's in a position of power is to blame when something goes wrong. The public blames politicians, but they are professional blame deflectors and the wheels go round and round.

Astronomical Houston

Submitted by ub on

It was an astronomical climb from being the worst team in the majors in the Autumn of 2011, the club was tasked with fixing a broken organization without direction, nor plan and lacking answers. Now they are at the top of the heap. Baseball has been very good to them.

The Houston Astros lost over a hundred games before they got tired of losing and have now won the World Series of Baseball for the first time ever. The Houston @astros PARADE is on Friday http://abc13.co/2z5Wmf4
