Joining forces to bring NYC another great performance May 13 @8P Concert Hall at Lehman College.

The importance of Orquesta Aragón to Cuban music is similar to that of the Duke Ellington Orchestra or the Count Basie Orchestra to American jazz. In the 1950s, Orquesta Aragón was signed to the American label RCA Victor and found great success internationally spearheading the first wave of Cuban cha-cha-cha and mambo mania that captivated American audiences. Then led by legendary violinist Rafael Lay, many historians cite this period as Orquesta Aragón’s apex. https://youtu.be/rONlPkU83L8?list=RDrONlPkU83L8

Tours of the U.S., Europe, and Latin America would ensue only to be interrupted by the politics and the Cuban blockade in the 1960s.

Following renewed interest in Cuban Music in the 1990s, Orquesta Aragón would return to the United States for three successful tours beginning in 1999 including concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, and Zellerbach Theatre in Berkeley. Their 1999 CD, La Charanga Eterna, marked the sixtieth anniversary of the band’s founding.

Also appearing,
Orquesta Broadway which is a Cuban charanga style band that was founded in New York City in 1962 by flutist Eddy Zervigón and his brothers Rudy (violin) and Kelvin (piano) along with their neighbor Roberto Torres as their vocalist. https://youtu.be/rF59MuOU2lQ

The number of "Bad Hombre" labels given to immigrant “criminals” who are being targeted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, should only apply to approximately half. From the total number who've been arrested during the latest detention and deportation raids. Half of those had traffic convictions, or no criminal records whatsoever, according to the federal government.

ICE data shows half of the immigrants arrested in raids had traffic convictions or no record. http://wapo.st/2oH4AZm?tid=ss_tw

This day is National College Decision Day because it is a date when many colleges pressure students to put up a large amount of money next to where their mouths are.
If they wish to attend school this the fall, these institutions want to lock you into their web.

Most community colleges and some four-year institutions do not pressure students to adhere to this cutoff date. But if and when college award letters arrive, financial experts warn that prospective students should take a hard look at what's really being offered.

April 30th marks the anniversary of the first scheduled television broadcast which featured Franklin D. Roosevelt's address to open the 1939 World’s Fair in New York.

The New York World's Fair opened as FDR became the first U.S. president to appear on television when he was shown on opening day at the New York World's Fair.

At the time, only few households owned the luxury of a television, so NBC positioned TVs around the NYC area for public access. Watch a clip of that historical first broadcast:

The first Latina elected to Congress, Republican Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen announced that she's retiring after more than three decades in elected office.

Ros-Lehtinen became the first GOP member of the House to support same-sex marriage. She proposes legislation making US funding for the UN contingent on extensive reform. Her bill will also call for the United States to withdraw from the UNHRC, and she says that Israel is the only country on the council's permanent agenda, while abuses by rogue regimes like Cuba, China, and Syria are ignored.

President George Washington was home-schooled until he was 16 years old, at which point he went to map out the boundaries of Virginia.

In 1752, he inherited his family's fortune. Though he had over 100 slaves, he was disliked the practice of slavery and often did manual labor on his land.

In 1753, Washington, a major in the Virginian militia, attacked the French and Indians. After he returned from the skirmish, he married Martha Dandridge Custis, a wealthy widow, which made him one of the wealthiest leaders in the state.

This is more powerful than TGIF. NASA scientists see Fermi Catches Gamma-ray Flashes from Tropical Storms. It occurs a thousand times a day when thunderstorms fire off fleeting bursts of some of the highest-energy light naturally found on Earth.

Who decreases our US credibility, creates an unsafe environment, downgrades public education, sells the public lands, monetizes the presidency, makes Americans less safe and more despised around the world, while achieving little following a series of theatrics which includes rallies to attack dissenters?

This, I can tell you... Believe me... This is my pledge to you... Donald Trump’s Contract with America.
