NSA Stops Bulk Survailence

US National Security Agency has reportedly ended its massive collecting of Americans' phone records and replaced it with targeted surveillance methods.

Under the Freedom Act, the larger surveillance program was declared dead on Saturday night. This comes two and a half years after Edward Snowden exposed the depths of the program. This is the biggest bugging bow out since 9/11.

A 20-year review carried out by UN shows 90 percent of of disasters are weather-related. US, China, India, Philippines and Indonesia recorded the most.

Asia accounts for the lion’s share of disaster impacts including 332,000 deaths and 3.7 billion people affected. The death toll in Asia included 138,000 deaths caused by Cyclone Nargis which struck Myanmar in 2008.

In total, an average of 335 weather-related disasters were recorded per year between 2005 and 2014, an increase of 14% from 1995-2004, and almost twice the level recorded during 1985-1995.

Family Affair

November was once again an extremely sweet month for our entire family. Sabrina Caren gave birth to my fifth grandchild, a healthy and beautiful baby girl named Olivia. When she was born, my wife Yirong, and I quickly traveled from New York City to Los Angeles to meet and enjoy a week with the grand-kids and to help out the parents as they and the "bigger and older cousins" happily welcomed OLIVIA to The Soto - Polo Family.
