DEFLATEGATE FATE

Who says the new NFL season begins on September 10th? The jammed packed drama connected to the action packed sport of football will not be played out on the gridiron, but inside a courtroom today. This legal game is in the fourth down of the final quarter because the Deflate-gate saga could very well be settled today.

The issue exists following a game in January when the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts, allegedly with the aid of under-inflated footballs.

Astronomer Fred Bruenjes recorded a series of many 30 second long exposures spanning about six hours on the night of Aug. 11 and early morning of Aug. 12, 2004 using a wide angle lens. Combining those frames which captured meteor flashes, he produced this dramatic view of the Perseids of summer. There are 51 Perseid meteors in the composite image, including one seen nearly head-on.

Thanks to a new moon, this week’s Perseid meteor shower is expected to be one of the best in years, and NASA Television will bring viewers a front row seat.

NY Governor Cuomo, NYC Mayor de Blasio and New York City Council Speaker Mark-Viverito announced the State and City would take the unprecedented step of jointly crafting and instituting uniform regulations to combat Legionnaires’ disease. The regulations and legislation are being drafted by the Governor’s office, Mayor’s office and City Council representatives. The unparalleled outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in the South Bronx this summer, and other outbreaks across the state, have posed new challenges which government must respond to rapidly.

DROWNING DRONES

Some aircraft are autonomous unmanned helicopters and a few of them are small enough to carry in one hand and allow one to put a camera in the sky anywhere, anytime.

According to the FAA, drone hobbyists should fly no higher than 400 feet, stay clear of stadiums and people, and avoid flying within five miles of airports. During wildfires and other emergencies, the FAA imposes temporary restrictions. Why do these drone keep threatening the public safety?

DIVISIVE US

Submitted by ub on

Deconstructing the politics of divisiveness finds a democratic form of government tearing itself apart and it appears to be getting worse with time.

Instead of laying out their individual platforms, politicians continue attacking each other, their parties and the media. Divisive is the new form of inclusion when it comes to camp pain, or poly ticks.

Did you know this is the 75th anniversary of the best known all-American trickster. The one and only Bugs Bunny.

This animated Warner Brothers wise-cracking bunny with a NYC accent got his official start in 1940’s

The film “A Wild Hare” was only the beginning and since then, he’s trounced, out-talked, and outwitted a host of flamboyant but hapless opponents including Yosemite Sam, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, the Tasmanian Devil, and Elmer Fudd.

VOTING RIGHTS ACT

Submitted by Admin on

This week marks the very important and serious 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. But its not all peaches and cream at the polls. By 1965 concerted efforts to break the grip of state disfranchisement had been under way for some time, but had achieved only modest success overall and in some areas had proved almost entirely ineffectual. The murder of voting-rights activists in Philadelphia, Mississippi, gained national attention, along with numerous other acts of violence and terrorism.

Finally, the unprovoked attack on March 7, 1965, by state troopers on peaceful marchers crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, en route to the state capitol in Montgomery, persuaded the President and Congress to overcome Southern legislators' resistance to effective voting rights legislation. President Johnson issued a call for a strong voting rights law and hearings began soon thereafter on the bill that would become the Voting Rights Act.

NEGATIVE NEWS OVERDOSE?

Why is so much negative news being reported these days? There is lots of work that needs to get done to turn this world around, but news by definition is the exception. There is no news in the fact that hundreds of airplanes took off and landed safely from an airport. Unfortunately, the news develops when an airplane crashes. CITY IMAGES is making an effort to balance the negative information.
