Poorest in New York: The Bronx

The Bronx has been and continues to be the poorest county in New York State. Bronx County, New York has a median household income, 2009-2013: $34,388 NY State median household income, 2009-2013: $58,003. Poverty rate, 2009-2013: 29.8% and Unemployment, 2013: 11.8%.

Less than 70% of adults living in The Bronx have a high school diploma, one of the lowest rates in the country. Poor education among residents likely contributed to the area’s low incomes.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management has issued a Travel Advisory for January 12,2015.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a wintry mix of snow with rain and continuing through tomorrow.

Less than one inch of snow and a glaze of ice is forecast before the wintry mix transitions to all rain. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect.

A winter storm with it's own name in never a good thing. Hektor will slam much of the mid-Atlantic with freezing rain, sleet and snow beginning tonight and into the morning commute.

Cold time in the city... An area of disturbed weather, currently in Texas, is expected to move northeast during the day on Sunday. As it does, it will encounter colder air which will cause wintry precipitation to be possible. Areas in northeast Texas and Arkansas will begin to see impacts on Sunday morning.

Areas further north and east, in southern Indiana and southern Ohio, will receive precipitation by Sunday evening.

Boco Haram Massacre

Thousands are said to have been executed in a Boko Haram attack. Refugees in Nigeria fleeing from another attack by the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram have spoken about civilian deaths and scores of houses destroyed in an already hard-hit region.

The militants reportedly opened fire on northern Nigerian villages, leaving bodies scattered everywhere and as many as 2,000 people feared dead.
