One's personality is so pervasive and all-important that it presents a clinical paradox of sorts: it is hard to assess our own personality, and impossible to overlook that of others.

Back in May, NY Senator Jeff Klien and other politicians were touting the benefits of a Metro North transportation expansion proposal into the Bronx. But that was then and this is now.
Some of you may recall that a terrible accident occurred on the Hudson River Railroad near Spuyten Duyvil, where several lives were lost and dozens more were injured, but not the one that occurred this week. This is from news articles, which appeared back in 1882 newspapers.

This week's horrible accident that killed four and left dozens injured, casting a dark shadow over the holiday season. AS funeral services are being held, City Island Images wonders what millions of New Yorkers are thinking as they deal with this tragedy and worry about their safety and that of so many other commuters who have to rely on Metro North, which some feel is another accident waiting to happen.
The causes of this and previous accidents, four in the past seven months is alarming to say the least. A May 17 train derailment and collision in Bridgeport, Connecticut; the death of a Metro-North employee on May 28 in West Haven, Connecticut; and a freight train derailment in the Bronx back in July 18.
These four recent accidents caused 5 deaths and 129 injuries to Metro-North employees and customers. How many more have to occur before we say this is unacceptable and we've had enough.

Weather forecasters are warning NYC residents to prepare for an arctic blast which has already threatened 32 million Americans living in the Midwest and southern regions of the nation with ice and send temperatures sinking by as much as 50 degrees.
The worst of the ice storm should stretch from Texas through Arkansas and parts of Tennessee, Missouri and Kentucky. Some places could get a half-inch or more of ice, enough to weigh down power lines and snap tree branches.

Bill DeBlasio has chosen Bill Bratton as the new NYPD commissioner. He was Rudy Giuliani's police commissioner and this 66-year-old is not a native New Yorker.
The mayor elect has also announced the appointment of Anthony Shorris as First Deputy Mayor. NYC's second highest-ranking City Hall official is a former executive director at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has also served as deputy education chancellor and former finance commissioner during the administration of former Mayor Ed Koch.

Back in 1931 NYC construction workers lined up for their pay checks standing next to the first Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
The Christmas tree went on to become an icon and an annual tradition and a New York landmark.
This afternoon, four blocks around Rockefeller Center will be closed to cars and filled with barricades.
As Fifth and Sixth Avenues shut down, traffic will be pushed from avenue to avenue.
With 48th to 52nd Streets closed, the 40s and 50s will be virtually full of folks and impassable.
The world as we know it is a surprisingly adversarial partner. From an American point of view, Asia looks like the world’s most peaceful continent. And it still is, at least for now.
But when The US VP steps in the middle, the situation may erupt. Vice President Joe Biden has traveled to Asia and has walked into a sensitive diplomatic crisis.
It may appear to be a dull dispute over uninhabited Pacific islands known by different names depending on the country, but there is plenty of bad blood in them there hills. These countries have been at odds for 75 years that involves war, brutality, rape and historical baggage that now threatens to involve US.
China recently declared a no fly an air-defense zone over the disputed islands. These rocky islands are 200 miles southeast of China’s coast and also close to Taiwan, which has also expressed interest. The reason for the focus is not only a long history of bad blood between China and Japan, but there appears to be plenty of oil down there to claim. Perhaps enough oil to fuel China for the next half century.
