Monet's Garden - May 19-October 21/ This stunning tribute to French Impressionist Claude Monet showcases a seasonally changing interpretation of the garden that inspired his art. In addition, two rarely seen paintings by the artist--one of which has never been shown in the United States--will be on exhibition, and films, concerts, poetry readings, and hands-on art for kids will provide rich insight into the life and work of this renowned master.

NY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER ON THE BRONX RIVER PARKWAY

Remember those days when newspapers came out once a month, except in few big cities in which they were weekly, and written communication was done by telegraph. Radio dominated the world of news, sports and entertainment, but only in big cities, until the time of shortwave radio arrived.

One day, television appeared, but to be seen only in the very large cities. On Saturday evenings, the furniture companies used to leave the television on inside their windows, while hundreds of people would come and surround the store to watch TV.

UN CALLS FOR CESSATION OF VIOLENCE

The head of United Nations peacekeeping operations is calling on all parties in Syria to ensure the cessation of violence is observed, stressing that recent reports from observers on the ground show that much more needs to be done to maintain a ceasefire in the country.

“It is clearly for the parties to demonstrate the desire to cease all forms of armed violence,” said Under-Secretary-General Hervé Ladsous at a press briefing in New York. “More bombs, more weapons, more violence could only increase the tension and add to an already very considerable toll of human lives.”
