A few thousand Hong Kongers protested the turnover, which was otherwise celebratory and peaceful.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) today advised that cooling centers will remain open according to the latest National Weather Service forecast, the heat index is expected to reach or exceed 95 degrees.
Tonight expect a lengthier evening, as an extra leap second is going to be added to machines and devices which mark, or tell time. It's called a leap second.
The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service coordinates these leap seconds, and such coordination typically takes place in either June or December. This weekend's skip: Universal time will be 11:59:59 and then the rarely seen 11:59:60 before the clocks strike midnight. A longer day indeed.

Next year, the planned bridge construction during 2013 is going to make for an interesting commute for mussel suckers, clam diggers, or just about anyone who regularly travels in and out of City Island. City Island will get a new steel cable bridge, come hell or high water.
