On Saturday night, a full moon will appear to be unusually big. In fact, it will be one of the three larger super-moons your eyes may ever see this summer.

These sight for sore eyes occur when our celestial nighttime neighbor comes much closer to Earth. Those two other super-full- moons this summer may be viewed on Aug. 10 and Sept. 9th. super-moons.

Scientists point out that sometimes it may be difficult to see the difference with your naked eye between a Supermoon and a regular full moon because clouds and haze can mask their intensity and therefore the brightness.

At 1 PM, archeologist and historian Wade Catts explores the crucial New Jersey battle of early January 1777, one of General Washington’s great victories in the Revolutionary War. Mr. Catts co-authored a major new study of the terrain and battle accounts, providing a more accurate understanding of the engagement. He will also explain how the action at Princeton played an important role in sustaining the American cause. Following the talk, tour the historic church and cemetery, one of the nation’s oldest burial yards.

Perhaps you did not know it, or you may not have heard it yet, but the World Cup is over. It does not matter whatever the outcome is on Sunday, it will not mean a thing. So much so that City Island Images has learned that Associated Press Television News has decided to closed down its operation before the weekend.

Germany will most likely do what just about everyone expects it to do and crush Argentina after overwhelming Brazil 7 to 1. This FIFA World Cup will most likely be remembered by the rout that Team Germany gave to Team Brazil in their own home turf.

$185 MILLION FOR HOMELAND SECURITY

New York has received over $185 million in state and federal homeland security grants to municipalities across New York State. The funding will support critical infrastructure protection, sustain anti-terrorism programs in New York City, and enhance core emergency preparedness and response functions in counties statewide.

SUMMER STORMS

As this Summer continues to develop, Mother Nature is showing no mercy. The West sinks deeper into drought conditions and severe thunderstorms blanket the Plains to the Mid-Atlantic region.

Last night weather conditions were surprising to say the least. According to forecasters at our National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, they expect a slight risk of severe weather on Wednesday in the central Plains. The area of greatest concern is in eastern Colorado, western Kansas and southwest Nebraska. The main threat with these storms will be damaging winds and hail.

Hurricane, Cyclone, or Typhoon?

Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are all the same weather. They are called different names in different places.

In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, the term “hurricane” is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a “typhoon” and “cyclones” occur in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.
