RACIAL PROFILING IS WRONG

Judging a book by it's cover, or a person by their nationality, or color of their skin is wrong and that is why a US court ruled that the NYPD's stop-and-frisk practice is unconstitutional.

In the court's 198-page ruling, Judge Shira Sheindlin found the NYPD violates New Yorkers’ Fourth Amendment rights to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures and also found that these practices were racially discriminatory in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Today's landmark decision by a federal judge that NYPD has violated the constitutional rights of tens of thousands of Black and Latinos by subjecting them to unlawful stops. The judge told NYPD to bring its practices in line with the US Constitution and seeks an independent monitor.

Judge Shira A. Scheindlin’s ruling in Floyd v. City of New York found the NYPD liable for violations of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.

The jury in the trial of convicted mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger has found him guilty Monday of 31 counts, including 11 murders.

These guilty verdicts in the federal racketeering trial could bring a sentence of up to life in prison for the 83-year-old Bulger. Final sentencing is set for November 13.

The former FBI informant faces a life sentence in prison after decades on the run.

The New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg is having a tough time in the court of law. The Big Gulp ban was recently overturned and now he has been told that his controversial stop-and-frisk policy, which he and NYPD commissioner are so proud of appears to violate constitutional rights and must be altered, according to a federal judge ruling on Monday.

Manhattan Federal Judge Shira Scheindlin, has ordered immediate reforms including a test of body-cameras on cops and also appointed legal counsel Peter Zimroth as a monitor.

NYC Bridge and Street Closures – August 10-11

The Brooklyn Bridge will be closed to Manhattan-bound traffic from 12:01 am on Sunday to 5 am on Monday for rehabilitation work. Motorists should consider using the Williamsburg Bridge or the toll facilities at the Hugh L. Carey (formerly Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel, RFK Bridge or Queens Midtown Tunnel. Throughout this closure the Manhattan Bridge will accommodate 5 lanes of traffic inbound/westbound and two lanes outbound/eastbound.

The following streets in Manhattan will be closed on Saturday from 7 am to 1 pm for DOT Summer Streets:
