Crackdown at Tiananmen begins. With protests for democratic reforms entering their seventh week, the Chinese government authorizes its soldiers and tanks to reclaim Beijing's Tiananmen Square at all costs. By nightfall on June 4, Chinese troops had forcibly cleared the square, killing hundreds and arresting thousands of demonstrators and suspected dissidents.

With the welcomed arrival of warm weather, begins active exploration of City Island. This weekend once again visitors and islanders alike flocked to the midtown area on City Island Avenue. The subject in focus is The City Island Arts and Crafts Fair. This popular and regularly scheduled event is an opportunity for local shop owners, organizations and area-wide business men and women to sell their merchandise to tourists and locals alike.

City Island Walking Tours

City Island Images is proud to announce walking tours of City Island and surrounding areas.

Our small tour groups will meet @ the last stop on the #6 SUBWAY, Pelham Bay Station. We will then take the #29 Bus to City Island, where we will begin our journey. Depending on the tour and dates, our stops will include Pelham Cemetery, City Island Historical Society/Museum, The Old Schoolhouse, PS 175, Yacht Clubs, Restaurants, Galleries, Shoppes, Orchard Beach, Pelham Bay Park, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum. We will finish at the end of City Island Avenue and return to Pelham Bay Station #6 SUBWAY.

BUSY TIME FOR CITY ISLAND

June thru September is always the busiest season for City Island. This weekend this small and charming nautical community plays host to an outdoor arts and crafts fair, but that is not all.

As visitors and boaters enjoy the sunny skies, calm seas and warm weather, the fishing season appears to be in full swing.

Hurricane Season

The 2012 Hurricane Season is here once again. It begins in June and runs through November for the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

And as most City Islanders should still remember, this region was spared the last time mother nature sent her calling card. However, according to The National Hurricane Center, although Hurricane Preparedness Week is now ending, our work has only just begun.
