Yankee Stadium Pinstripe Bowl

The home of the Bronx Bombers is opening up its doors to college football for the second year in a row.

The Rutgers University Scarlet Knights of the Big East Conference and the Iowa State University Cyclones of the Big 12 Conference will play each other in the 2011 New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Yankee Stadium.

USPS Delays Closures until May 2012

Following the announcement by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) that it will delay the closure or consolidation of thousands of post offices and mail processing facilities across the country, including the Queens Processing Center and two post offices in Co-op City, until May 2012, Rep. Crowley issued the following statement:

The owner of the Sunoco gasoline station/mini-market plans to install a canopy over the gas pumps in order to offer shelter to his customers from rain and snow when they are pumping gas.

Many other stations have this set up. He will obtain the necessary permit for the canopy, which will be 24 by 24 feet, a two-column steel canopy with four LSI Scottsdale light fixtures. The 16-inch diameter columns will have internal PVS drains. He wants to know if the community has any comments to make on this.

CITY ISLAND THEATER GROUP

The City Island Theater Group is now accepting resumes for our upcoming season and future productions: February, May and November 2012.
Directors will meet and collaborate with the set, costume, lighting and sound designers, make notes on the technical needs in the script, cast the production (in collaboration with producers), plan the rehearsals, and bring the show to fruition.

The East Bronx History Forum will host their final lecture of 2011 on Wednesday, December 21st at 7:30 pm at the Huntington Free Library located at 9 Westchester Square . The library is adjacent to the Apple Bank for Savings just south of Benson Street and across the street from Owen Dolen Park . It is a landmarked building well worth a visit in and of itself.
