NYPD officials tell City Island Images that their investigation concerning break ins and burglaries at City Island Pharmacy, Filomena's Pizza, and Firehouse Deli continues. All three business were broken into and burglarized during the night in the past three weeks, with their cash registers stolen.

Meanwhile, City Island Images spoke with all three owner operators and asked them whether any of those cameras from the supposed $100K surveillance project, which should have been installed on City Island were helpful in these crime investigations, but none of them knew anything about the working cameras.

For years now, the City Island community has been promised the installation of multiple surveillance cameras. A year ago, NY Senator Jeff Klein, City Island Chamber of Commerce and City Island Civic Association officials announced that City Island would soon have a powerful new weapon to deal with vandalism and street crime, as thousands of visitors drive in and out of the island on a regular basis. They claimed that fifteen new security cameras would soon be installed along City Island Avenue. So where are those cameras? What ever happened to those $100,000? Taxpayers demand an answer, but officials are tight lipped.

These non existent cameras were supposed to be placed in strategic locations all over the island, according to local officials, and would record video onto a hard disk only accessible to chamber members and NYPD should there be any criminal activity. So now that these three crimes have recently occurred, where are those cameras? City Island Images reached out to NY Senator Klein and members of The City Island Chamber, Civic Association, but no one has provided us with any immediate comments. All we can wonder is why? What happened to the high profile $100K camera project?

According to Pew Research figures, there are 11.1 million immigrants living illegally in the U.S. This is the group for whom proposed legislation would provide a path to citizenship for most.

If the cutoff date for being in this country is Dec. 31, 2011, then based on their latest published estimates for March 2011, all 11 million would be eligible to apply. Pew does not know how many will apply and certainly not all will qualify because there are other requirements beyond just having been in the country.

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, along with and 68 community-based organizations from all over the country committed to improving the health and well-being of Asian American, Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian communities and advancing health equity, submitted written testimony to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary for today's hearing on the bipartisan Senate immigration bill, "The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act" (S.744).

In their testimony, these organizations urged Congress to rethink the barriers their bill places on health care access for immigrants.

72 year old folk singer Richie Havens, who entertained thousands at Woodstock, has died of a heart attack.
