Those two political conventions are finally over. US can expect the mud-slinging to intensify as we count down to election day. We are less than two months away and it appears that our leaders are more concerned about attacking each other, than working with one another to create a bi-partisan plan to strengthen our Republic.

President's child born in White House. Frances Folsom Cleveland, the wife of President Grover Cleveland, gives birth to a daughter, Esther, in the White House. During an intimate ceremony held in the Blue Room of the White House, President Grover Cleveland married Frances Folsom, the daughter of Cleveland's late law partner and friend, Oscar Folsom. Fewer than 40 people were present to witness the 49-year-old president exchange vows with Frances, who at 21 years of age became the youngest first lady in U.S. history.

The United Nations and its partners today increased their humanitarian appeal for Syria from $180 million to $347 million, due to the doubling of the number of people in need since July, to 2.5 million.
