Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged countries not to lose momentum and show determined leadership to advance negotiations at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, as States enter their first day of high-level talks.
“The world is looking to you for leadership,” Mr. Ban told participants at the 17th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), where thousands of representatives from governments, international organization and civil society have gathered to advance ways to cut global carbon emissions.
The snow is on it's way, make no mistake about it. This wintery mess is heading east and it is expected here sooner than most of our NYC commuters expect.
Meanwhile, members of the City Council's transportation committee grilled the Metropolitan Transportation Authority on its preparations for the snowy months ahead. Jimmy Vacca, Chairman of NYC Transportation Committee says the blizzard last year exposed major shortcomings in the MTA's snowstorm preparedness, and they have dutifully taken up the task of fixing these shortcomings over the past year.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation will host the 2nd annual “Tribute to Bronx Businesses” luncheon, where ten Bronx businesses will be honored for helping drive economic success in the borough.
Those businesses include Bronx Brewery, Bronx/Manhattan North Association of Realtors, Dufour Pastry Kitchens, G.A.L. Manufacturing Corp., Gabrielli Truck Sales, Johnson Security Bureau, Just Bagels, Paper Enterprises, Skyline Windows, and the Anheuser-Busch Companies.

The challenges ahead as Afghanistan seeks to consolidate peace and development are large but the international community will not be deterred in its support for the country’s efforts, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon pledged today at an international conference in Bonn.
“Success requires effective engagement from us all, now and for the long-term,” Mr. Ban told the meeting, which brought leaders from over 100 countries and international organizations back to the German city where they charted a path for a post-Taliban Afghanistan some 10 years ago.
The economic situation has gotten so tight in Europe, that the Queen of England may soon be taking a pay cut and be forced to tighten her belt on future parties and lavish public events.
A newly approved British law expected to reduce her income over the next few years. The new legislation passed into law a few weeks ago offers a new arrangement, the Queen receives 15 percent of the profits made over two years from the Crown Estate, whose portfolio includes Regent Street, Windsor Great Park and more than half the country's shoreline.
