Yesterday, before going to teach one of my college classes, I decided to stop by and visit the oldest, coolest, most wonderful, and one of the wisest people I know. He is 95 year old Captain Ed Sadler, a retired fire-boat Captain.

Ed and I have shared many delightful visits and he has even come to my home for dinner and drinks. We have had many conversations over time, and yesterday was no exception. Ed recalled the days when my TOCAYO, Robert Moses was building our area and the many changes which occurred as a result.

MTA has agreed to major renovations to the 149th Street/Grand Concourse subway station. Additionally, the agency will make repairs to the 138th Street/3rd Avenue subway station.

The agreement follows months of advocacy by Borough President Diaz and his office, along with the two Bronx residents who serve on the board of the MTA, Charles Moerdler and Fernando Ferrer. The two stations are among the worst in the City, and are consistently rated as such not only by transit advocacy groups but by Bronx commuters as well.
