Con-Preventions?

Will violence erupt in and around either one of these venues? Let's hope not, but it won't be the first time.

The 41st Republican National Convention will be held in Cleveland , Ohio at Quicken Loans Arena from
July 18-21 2016.

The RNC is expected to formally select Donald J. Trump as the nominee for president for the Republican Party. He may be the first non-politician to receive the nomination since former president Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952, but The Donald is no IKE. For starters. he never even served a day in the military.

The decision to schedule the 41st RNC one month earlier than previous editions was made in order to bypass a Federal Election Commission campaign spending restriction and to facilitate earlier campaigning in Ohio, a key battleground swing state which every winning presidential candidate since 1964 has won. The Ohio winning streak for Republican presidential candidates stretches even further when Abraham Lincoln triumphed over Democratic candidate George B. McClellan in 1860. Another reason behind the timing of the convention is the Rio summer Olympics (August 5 - 21), which is certain to draw the nation’s attention away from costly campaign advertisements.

The 47th Democratic National Convention will be held in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania at Wells Fargo Center and The Pennsylvania Convention Center from July 25-28 2016.

The DNC announced the convention dates on January 23, 2015, and the convention host city on February 12, 2015, eliminating the two other finalist cities of Columbus, Ohio and New York City.

A number of other cities had been chosen by the Democratic National Committee as finalists to host the convention. Birmingham and Phoenix were eliminated following site visits on July 21, 2014. Cleveland, withdrew from the competition after the RNC decided on July 8, 2014, to hold their 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Other cities under earlier consideration to host the 2016 DNC Convention included Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Nashville and Salt Lake City.

Back in the 1830's, the legendary figures from our great nation's history were roaming the political landscape of our amazing country. The footprint of party giant and one of the founders of the Democratic Party of the United States, President Andrew Jackson, threatened to engulf the party itself.

The initial decision to break away from the Democratic-Republican Party in 1812 over ideological differences and the choice of its leadership, led to the birth of the Democratic Party and the subsequent role in the elevation of Jackson to the presidency.

There was an absence of a formal nomination system for presidential candidates and it caused the build-up of factions within the party, jockeying for post and favors, along with an increasingly prevalent concentration of power among an elite group aligned with President Jackson.

With two political conventions back to back and right around the corner, will our nation accept division as a norm, or reject it once and for all. Let's keep our great country and not turn it over to haters, financial opportunists, or mad money grubbers.

Following last weeks killing of black men and the ambush of white police officers, Americans must now make an effort to get along and learn tolerance and accept our difference and embrace races.

Radio revolutionized news coverage during WWII, TV did it when JFK was shot and killed, Cable did it during the first Gulf War, as Twitter did for the Arab Spring and now its Facebook.

When I became a journalist, only professional broadcasters had the capability to "go live" from anywhere. This week, all of us traveling the information superhighway shared in horror as Diamond Reynolds transmitted live from the front seat of her car while her partner, Philando Castile, was slowly dying beside her. The next day, citizen journalists streamed images of police officers under attack from a sniper.

Demonstrators are now live-streaming their marches. And in a few days, the world will watch two conventions surrounded by discontent, increasing tensions and protests in states with open carry laws.

For the past couple of years, a series of recorded video clips have been posted on social media shaping the national conversation about the use deadly force. The videos sparked protest, occasional violence and, importantly, new public safety procedures. But now, these videos are not recordings, they're transmitted live and raw directly from the scene.

It would be smart for the new breed of citizen journalists and for that matter, just about anyone who may be considering using this new technology to first do some soul searching and think about the responsibility of your actions before going live.

This time, the whole world may be watching your live streaming sessions.

Lawless in Louisiana

Public safety may not be as important as one would think in Louisiana. The southeastern U.S. state on the Gulf of Mexico has a history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures.

There is outrage while the more things seem to change in America, the more they appear to stay the same or get worse when it comes to enforcing the law, or not.
